Hi everyone - Nate here, Sally's husband, updating her blog for her. There is still a lack of internet access in the hopsital, so Sally will have to refrain until she comes home.
The babies have improved mightily in the last couple of days. They are all breathing completely independently, and have been shedding wires, tubes and instruments seemingly by the hour. Currently, they've all been put into the same crib by the nurses where they sleep together between feedings, which is about the neatest thing I've ever seen. The boys are perfectly comfortable with the arrangement, while Olivia voices her displeasure from time to time (bound to be a recurring theme for the rest of our lives, I have a feeling).
Our lives now revolve around measurements. How much has their weight changed? How much do they eat at each feeding? How much have they pooped and pee'd? How quickly do they eat?
For the most part they haven't lost much weight...a couple of ounces at most. Their bowels are working and Cooper is developing a reputation throughout the nursery for lying in wait for the opportune time once a nurse takes his diaper off to finish his business. A quote from one unsuspecting nurse last night: "I need to go home and take a shower".
Hunter and Olivia are great eaters. She is newer to this game, as we weren't able to feed her until Wednesday, but can keep up with her brother pretty well.
Cooper is usually more interested in sleeping than eating. He throws us the occasional bone by latching onto the bottle's nipple, but then goes right back to sleep after a couple of sucks. Feeding time becomes basically an event of harrassing and poking him until he wakes up and then begging him to eat.
Regardless, we are incredibly lucky. They are all healthy, and while no timeline has been set in stone, I have the feeling that they will all be ready to come home in 10 days or less. They are also incredibly cute....really. No bias here.
Mom is doing well. The Bell's Palsy hasn't improved much, but she is up and walking around and the only pain is coming from her uterus contracting from its balloon-like state a few days ago, implying that the incision is healing properly. She looks great and is not swelling too much. She even declined her Vicodin yesterday......after which I pointed out what a nice profit center such medication could be. Call me Dr. Feelgood and page me if you're interested.
I would put up some photos, but I know when I am beat, and have a feeling I would spend the rest of the day trying to figure it out. Unfortunately, I am back at work and have to get some stuff done. For those of you who are on Facebook, I have posted a couple photos of the boys together and Olivia by herself on my profile. Hopefully, Sally can teach me to put photos up here soon, and I'll put some more recent ones on this blog (including one of them all sleeping together).
Hope everyone is doing well. The Weis family certainly is.
